The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration would adopt Apple’s devices
The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOOA) said it would supply employees with Apple's iPhones, instead of the BlackBerrys from Research In Motion.
This decision of NOOA was revealed by The Loop, which obtained a memo sent out by its CIO Joseph F. Klimavicz.
The memo further reveals that the organisation will continue support for the BlackBerry until May 12, following which workers will be supplied with new iPhones and iPads.
However, it didn't indicate when the government would furnish workers with the new Apple products.
The agency, which leads research into weather, oceans and fisheries, had issued about 3,000 BlackBerrys among its 13,000 full-time employees and 7,000 contractors, according to Klimavicz.
The Washington Post had described in May 2011 that a trend was being witnessed in the US federal government, which indicated that agencies were shifting from BlackBerrys to iPhones.
Even the energy firm Halliburton is reported to be phasing out 4,500 BlackBerrys given to employees and switching over to iPhones.
