The smartphone features a full-colour LCD screen on one side and an e-ink display on the other
Russian phone maker Yota Devices has introduced a dual screen Android-powered smartphone, combining a touchscreen smartphone and an e-ink e-reader in one device .
The smartphone features a full-colour LCD screen on one side and an electronic paper display (EPD) on the other. The touchscreen side comes with 4.3in display featuring Gorilla Glass. Users will be able to use one side as a traditional touchscreen device then flip it over and use the other side as an e-reader.
According to the mobile maker, the additional low-power screen will be able to show social network updates and display critical information even when handsets are not turned on.
Yota chief executive Vlad Martynov told the BBC that although the smartphone is now a window onto this virtual life, there's a lot of disappointment if somebody misses out on information. "Our electronic paper display with our applications will remove this irritation," Vlad Martynov said.
The new device comes with a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, 2GB RAM, a 12-megapixels rear camera, a front 720p camera and 2,100mAH battery.
Yota is planning to debut the new smartphone at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February 2013, and it will go on sale in Russia in the summer of 2013, and in Europe and North America in late 2013, according to reports.
