The new OS will power its two new LTE-enabled smartphone models, the Blackbery Z10 and Q10.
Research In Motion (RIM) has changed its official name to BlackBerry. The company has also released its new mobile computing platform, BlackBerry 10.
RIM president and CEO, Thorsten Heins, said that the change from Research In Motion to BlackBerry comes at a defining moment in the company's history.
"As we launch BlackBerry 10 around the world, now is the right time to adopt the iconic BlackBerry name," Heins said.
Features of Blackberry's new smartphones include 1.5 Ghz dual core processors with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and an expandable memory card slot.
Incorporating enhanced high density pixel and screen technology both smartphone models feature a micro HDMI out port for presentations, and enhanced sensors including near field communications (NFC) that allow mobile payments and the exchange of information with a tap of the smartphone.
Both will be offered from carriers to support their respective 4G LTE or HSPA+ networks and all the offered models support a global roaming feature.
