NEC develops smartphone software to guide appropriate path of incoming calls

CBR Staff Writer Published 21 February 2012

Collects and analyses data from a user's smartphone to automatically recommend best suited path

NEC Corporation has developed a smartphone software that the company says automatically recommends the appropriate path for a user's incoming calls based on the software's estimate of a smartphone's movement.

The new software collects and analyses data from a user's smartphone to automatically recommend the most appropriate path for incoming calls, such as a standard ring, voice message or email.

NEC Corporation 3rd Carrier Services Division department manager Keiko Matsunaga said a person's activity, whether they are driving, in a meeting or exercising, has a significant impact on the best way to take a call.

"NEC's new solution facilitates smoother, less intrusive communications by automatically recommending the most appropriate contact method," Matsunaga said.

NEC will introduce the new software at Mobile World Congress 2012 in Spain, and the tool is slated to commercially available by June 2012.
