Mobile Coupons redemptions in 2013 to rise 50%: report

CBR Staff Writer Published 31 January 2013

Redeemed mobile coupons are expected to increase 50% this year.

According to a new report, the number of discount coupons redeemed through mobile and tablet devices is expected to reach 10 billion this year.

Juniper Research revealed that retailers have been looking to mobile as a delivery channel to drive retail footfall as well as to improve consumer engagement and retention.

The report also revealed that mobile coupons have a significantly higher redemption rate of about 10% compared to print or PC coupons with 1%.

Additionally, the report revealed that mobile coupons have been providing retailers with an opportunity to merge their digital and physical assets.

Juniper Research research director Dr Windsor Holden said: "While we've heard that online retail is killing the High Street - witness United Retail filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the US and the recent administrations of Jessop's and Blockbuster in the UK - mobile offers a means of engaging with the consumer at every point in the retail lifecycle, from product discovery to product purchase."
